Conn. stimulus funds cover hospitals' energy-efficient lighting
By Mass High Tech staff
Connecticut Governor Jodi M. Rell is using $420,000 in federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to begin basic light fixture and light control changes to two University of Connecticut Health Center buildings.
The centers — one in Farmington for UCHS’s human resources, information technology, facility and planning, and the other in West Hartford for primary care, pediatrics, genetics, psychiatry and obstetrics-gynecology — will replace current incandescent or fluorescent bulbs and magnetic or electronic ballasts with energy-efficient lighting, wiring and fixtures.
Rell said the health centers’ energy efficient measures mark the first of 16 energy-efficient projects that will share $5 million in stimulus funds for the state.
In June, the state announced that it was in line to receive $15.4 million from the ARRA for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Among the funds announced in June, $8 million will support fuel cell initiatives for a goal of 14 projects and $5 million will support residential and commercial geothermal systems.
