Ember Corp. has added a utility executive to its board of directors in the person of Jacob Worenklein, who has replaced a seat vacated by departing board member Rebecca Henderson, the company announced in a press release today. Henderson is leaving to take a new position at Harvard Business School.
Worenklein is the founder and former CEO of US Power Generating Co., which owns and operates power plants in New York City and Boston. In its press release, Ember also formally announced the appointment of Mohamad Ali, senior vice president of corporate development at Avaya Inc., to its board. Ali’s position on Ember’s board was reported this summer, after his move to Avaya from his long-time position at IBM Corp.
Ember’s core offering, its ZigBee portfolio of products, comprises wireless software and network equipment for smart grid applications, home area networks, building automation and automatic meter reading. The company says its next step will be to add Internet connectivity into each product.
Worenklein and Ali join existing boardmembers Ember CEO Robert LeFort, Polaris Venture Partners’ Bob Metcalfe, RRE Ventures’ Stuart Ellman, Vulcan Capital’s Steve Hall, DFJ New England’s Todd Hixon and GrandBanks Capital’s Charles Lax.
