Menino welcomes Artaic to Boston with $50K loan

By Mass High Tech staff

Artaic LLC, a Boston startup that combines mosaic art and robotic technology, has received a $50,000 loan from CreateBoston, a resource-providing program for businesses and entrepreneurs, and the Boston Local Development Corp., presented today by Boston Mayor Tom Menino.

The company, an MIT spinout, has built a robot that can lay mosaic tile 10 times faster than a human being. The patent-pending robotic precision manufacturing and computer-aided-design technology is intended for use in large-scale mosaic productions.

With financial and site assistance from CreateBoston, Artaic settled into its 4,400 square-foot facility at the Boston Marine Industrial Park in July 2008 and made the location its permanent home at the beginning of 2009.

The Boston Local Development Corp. provides loans to assist businesses in moving within or to Boston, to cover property costs, construction costs, and equipment and machinery expenses.
