MLSC-backed Wadsworth gets FDA approval for wound-closure system
By Mass High Tech staff
Wadsworth Medical Technologies, an investment portfolio firm of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, has been granted FDA approval for its noninvasive, needleless wound-closure system, called DermaLOC. As a result, and with the FDA’s “minimal risk” rating, the company can market the system for human use.
The Westborough medical device firm was one of the first companies to receive funding, a $400,000 Accelerator loan in April, from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, or MLSC, a quasi-public agency tasked with overseeing the state’s $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative. The Accelerator program provides $3.4 million to life sciences firms in the state. Each company is eligible for as much as half a million dollars to support research and development, manufacturing and sales.
Wadsworth’s DermaLOC system is made to close skin wounds using tension.
