PlumChoice calls in $14.7M in new funding

By Rodney H. Brown

Fresh off the addition of new CFO Kevin Rhodes, Billerica-based PlumChoice Inc. reports it has landed $14.7 million in new funding to help expand its remote help desk business, providing support for tech such as PCs and smartphones.

Investors include Edison Venture Fund and other unnamed prior investors, according to PlumChoice. Also investing for the first time was an unnamed limited partner of Edison’s. PlumChoice said it will use the proceeds to expand sales and support marketing, business operations and product development for the company’s subscription-based and single-use, white label, remote tech services.

Earlier this month, Rhodes, the former chief financial officer at systems integration company Edgewater Technology Inc., was named as CFO of PlumChoice.  He had spent eight years at Wakefield-based Edgewater, which provides technology management consulting services.

Founded in 2000, PlumChoice closed its $4.8 million second round of venture capital, led by New Jersey-based Edison, in August 2007.

In addition to PCs and smartphones, PlumChoice says it supports networking, software applications, printers, peripherals, MP3 players, digital cameras and more. The company touts the fact that all of its technical consultants are based in the United States.
