Social media firm Plum acquired by Nokia
By Mass High Tech staff
Plum Ventures Inc., a social networking venture based in both Boston and San Francisco, reports on its blog that it has been bought by mobile device firm Nokia Corp. The company has a total of 10 employees between the two offices.
Plum caters its social media sharing and messaging to private groups — namely, families, co-workers, sports groups, schools and neighborhood groups, according to a release by Nokia. The privately held company was founded in 2004 and names Vulcan Capital and Levensohn Venture Partners as its investors.
Plum co-founder and chief technology officer Margaret Olson also co-founded and served as the CTO of e-mail marketing firm Constant Contact Inc.
The newly acquired company will run as part of Nokia’s Services unit, though the blog post said it couldn’t disclose further information on its role in Nokia yet.
