EMC acquires FastScale Technology
By Cross-posted from Boston Business Journal
EMC Corp. said Monday it acquired FastScale Technology Inc., a provider of software for next-generation enterprise IT.
Hopkinton-based EMC (NYSE:EMC) did not disclose financial or other terms of the deal with privately held FastScale, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif.
The company reported that the acquisition would improve performance of physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. Founded in 2006, FastScale has developed server technology to maintain performance while running up to three times more virtual machines that use a reduced amount of memory space.
The deal means that FastScale will become part of EMC’s Ionix Software Group and will report to Jay Mastaj, vice president and general manager of the group.
The death of EMC co-founder Richard Egan on Friday was reported today to have come from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Egan, 73, had been diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year and, according to his online obituary, also suffered from emphysema, diabetes and high blood pressure.
