Peter Rothstein, an entrepreneur-in-residence at Flagship Ventures, has taken the position of senior vice president at the New England Clean Energy Council.
Rothstein will be responsible for working on the council’s Energy Innovation Consortia project, which would set up a regional center for clean technology research and commercialization and incorporate public, academic and private research, he said in an e-mail to colleagues Monday. The council has worked with officials in Washington, D.C., as well as the offices of U.S. Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts and U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman of California to incorporate the idea into the federal clean energy bill making its way through Congress.
He had been active with the council’s Clean Energy Fellowship Program while still with Flagship.
Rothstein is not the only local VC working on federal energy policy, however. David Danielson from General Catalyst Partners and Sanjay Wagle from Vantage Point Venture Partners are now at the U.S. Department of Energy leading its Advanced Research Projects Agency — Energy program.
Rothstein said he will continue to advise and consult with clean energy startups and venture capital firms through his role at the Council.
