Mainelli joins Orthofix board
By Mass High Tech staff
Michael Mainelli, the president and CEO of Active Implants Corp., has joined the board of directors at Boston medical devices firm Orthofix International NV.
Mainelli joins Orthofix having previously served as president of divisional units of Stryker Corp., including Stryker Japan and Stryker Spine. Prior to his eight years at Stryker, Mainelli spent 12 years at General Electric Co., working in GE Medical Systems and GE Global Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Orthofix (Nasdaq: OFIX) develops medical devices for spinal device applications, orthopedics and sports medicine. The company has developed research and development partnerships with other organizations, including the Muscoloskeletal Transplant Foundation, Rutgers University, the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation and the National Osteoporosis Institute.
Earlier this year, Orthofix disputed a recommendation from New York investment management firm Ramius LLC to elect Peter Feld to the Orthofix board of directors, and it distributed a letter to shareholders noting its opposition. The dispute stemmed from Orthofix officials’ belief that Feld is underqualified and less experienced. Feld was not listed on the Orthofix website as a board member as of today.
