COO Archbold resigns from global-reaching Evergreen Solar

By Craig M. Douglas

Evergreen Solar Inc., a manufacturer of silicon-based solar panels and related components, has agreed to cut ties with Rodolfo Archbold, its senior vice president of operations, citing the need to hire a manufacturing-operations executive with experience in managing contracted projects on a global basis.

Archbold’s resignation will take effect Aug. 28. He is slated to receive his base salary, which was $302,087 in 2008, and benefits for six to 12 months, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Archbold has served as Evergreen’s (Nasdaq: ESLR) senior operations executive since July 2007. Prior to that he consulted manufacturing outfits, including North Reading-based Teradyne Inc. (NYSE: TER), a maker of test equipment used in the production of electronic chips and other components.

In May, Marlborough-based Evergreen said it planned to build more solar panels in China. The move is expected to affect the scope of its manufacturing work performed at its Devens-based manufacturing facility.
