Spacesuit maker Flagsuit wins Heinlein Biz Plan Competition
By Mass High Tech staff
Flagsuit LLC, a Southwest Harbor, Maine-based maker of suborbital and planetary space suits, has won first place, and a $5,000 cash prize, in the Heinlein Business Plan Competition.
The competition winners included Syntiant Inc. and Santa Clara Satellite Solutions as second-place and honorable mention winners respectively. Flagsuit will have the opportunity to pitch its business to investors next month in Boston at the Space Investment Summit 7 on September 30, and it will also attend a Space Angels Network event and will receive a three-month Space Angels Network site membership. The cash prize was awarded to Flagsuit through the Heinlein Trust.
Founded in 2007, Flagsuit develops affordable spacesuits and is currently working on a pressurized, highly mobile spacesuit that can also cross markets and be used in a consumer niche for disease prevention through hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Mass High Tech named Flagsuit one of its “Startup Watch: Five to Follow” companies in March.
Last September, Flagsuit landed $5,200 from the Maine Technology Institute to develop space suit gloves for the commercial space flight market.
The Heinlein Business Plan Competition is organized by the Space Frontier Foundation, an organization comprised of space activists, scientists and engineers, media and political professionals, entrepreneurs, and citizens — all of whom hold a long-term goal permanent settlement of space.
