Highland Capital leads FanSnap’s $5.2M funding
By Mass High Tech staff
Highland Capital Partners has led a $5.2 million second funding round in FanSnap, a California-based live event ticket search engine. As part of the investment deal, Highland Capital General Partner Richard de Silva will join FanSnap’s board of directors.
FanSnap said the funding will help the startup “to extend its product and category leadership.” The company, which dubs its product as the “Kayak for event ticket searches,” maintains a search engine of more than 12 million concert, theater and sports tickets for more than 30,000 events.
Launched in March 2009, the search engine features the company’s FanSnap Mapssm — a tool that maps ticket prices to providers and uses “heat map” markers to show ticket price ranges.
Highland Capital’s deSilva specialized in digital media investments. His other board seatings include Digg, Affine Systems, NameMedia and US SEARCH. He has worked for Highland Capital since April 2003 and was previously a co-founder and president of SiteBurst Inc.
