Helicos names new CFO in Jeffrey Moore

By Craig M. Douglas

Helicos BioSciences Corp., a maker of gene-analysis technologies, announced on Tuesday a senior-level executive shuffling that will replace Stephen Hall, its current chief financial officer, with financial-services veteran Jeffrey Moore.

The Cambridge-based company said it inked a separation agreement with Hall on Aug. 6. He will remain in his current role until Aug. 14, the expected publication date of Helicos’ (Nasdaq: HLSC) second quarter financial results. Hall is expected to remain as an employee with the company through Aug. 31, according to a regulatory filing.

As severance, Hall will receive a lump-sum payment of $92,667, or roughly four months-worth of his $278,000-per-year salary, as well as health and dental benefits through Dec. 31. He will also receive “executive level outplacement services” for an undisclosed period, the company said. Certain stock option and restricted stock grants are scheduled to vest on an accelerated basis as well.

Moore, 46, is slated to take over as Helicos’ CFO on Aug. 14. He previously served as a managing member of Fiske Pond Advisors LLC, a financial advisory firm. He was also the CFO for Affinova Inc., a Massachusetts-based software firm, and served as vice president of finance for Flagship Ventures in Cambridge from 2000 through 2006.

Moore is slated to earn $270,000 a year and will receive options to purchase 200,000 shares of Helicos common stock. He also is scheduled to receive a restricted stock grant of 75,000 shares.

Helicos is the maker of the Helicos Genetic Analysis System, which has the capability of reading long genetic sequences.
