Voice-to-text firm Nuance buys Jott
By Mass High Tech staff
Speech-recognition software company Nuance Communications Inc. has acquired Jott Networks, a voice-to-text mobile applications firm.
Jott, which is based in Seattle, brings its key products of Jott Assistant, Jott Voicemail and Jott for Salesforce to Burlington-based Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN). Jott Assistant enables users to post notes, e-mails and text messages to web services using voice only.
Founded in 2006 by John Pollard and Shree Madhavapeddi, the company said in a statement that its applications enable voice-to-text, and voicemail-to-text, for anyone with a cell phone.
The acquisition will allow Nuance to offer mobile operators its Jott Assistant with Nuance Voicemail-to-Text. The company will offer an enterprise package consisting of Nuance Voicemail-to-Text, Messaging, and Collaboration, and it will also develop its CRM partnerships surrounding Jott for Salesforce.
No financial details of the acquisition were provided.
In February, after months of contentious negotiations, Nuance announced that it would acquire mobile advertising software maker Zi Corp. (Nasdaq: ZICA) for $35 million in cash and stock.
Nuance reported a $30 million loss for fiscal 2008, on revenue of $868 million.
