Lantheus Medical Imaging lands U.S., Canadian supplier approval

By Mass High Tech staff

Diagnostic imaging firm Lantheus Medical Imaging Inc. has received regulatory approval in the U.S. and Canada to use the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Orgnization (ANSTO) as a supplier of a molecular isotope for the two countries.

Lantheus filed a New Drug Application form with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and a Supplemental New Drug Submission form with Health Canada.

The isotope, low-enriched uranium-derived molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), derives medical radioisotope technetium-99m (Tc-99m) from it for nuclear diagnostic imaging procedures.

Lantheus uses Tc-99m in its generator line, TechneLite. The company also develops Cardiolite and Definity Vial for Injectable Suspension.

Lantheus said it employs 600 workers at operations in North Billerica, Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia.
