5AM Ventures raises $159M life sciences fund

Life sciences-focused venture capital firm 5AM Ventures has raised $159 million from 34 investors in its third fund, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The seed money provider, which has offices in Waltham and Menlo Park, Calif., had listed almost $120 million in an April filing, according to a report from PE Hub. Its first fund, upon launching in 2004, was valued at $65 million, while its 2006 second fund brought in $150 million.
The 5AM Ventures website lists its managing partners as John Diekman, Scott Rocklage and Andrew Schwab. Among its investments, 5AM Ventures has backed Lexington-based biotech Pulmatrix Inc.; Cambridge-based Semprus BioSciences Corp., an antibacterial coatings biomedical company; and California firms Relypsa Inc., Pearl Therapeutics and Ambrx Inc.
