Protonex Technology Corp., a provider of advanced fuel cell power systems for portable, remote and mobile applications, has named David A. Ierardi as vice president of operations. Ierardi has more than 25 years of global operations and manufacturing experience with specific capabilities in new product introduction, logistics, supply chain management, quality, cost reduction and contract manufacturing selection and management. Prior to joining Protonex, Ierardi held senior positions at RSA — the security division of EMC — Telco Systems, Integral Access and Lucent Technologies. Ierardi holds a master’s degree in computer integrated manufacturing from Brigham Young University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Lowell.
Vette Corp., a provider of thermal management solutions, announced today that Philip Koen, chief executive officer and a director of Savvis Inc., has joined Vette’s board of directors. Vette specializes in solving the thermal, energy and cost challenges for enterprises at the component, system and data center level. Prior to joining Savvis in 2006, Koen was the president and COO for Equinix Inc., a provider of data center and Internet exchange services. He held a variety of positions at Pointcast Inc., including president, CEO, COO and CFO. Prior to Pointcast, he served as CFO for Etec Systems Inc. He received a bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College and an MBA from the University of Virginia.

McCarter & English has announced the hiring of David Burns as a partner in the Boston office. Burns is an intellectual property lawyer specializing in medical devices and technology. Before entering the legal profession, he was an electrical engineer at Raytheon Co. Burns joins McCarter & English from the Boston firm Lahive & Cockfield. He follows a 12-member life sciences patent prosecution team that moved to McCarter & English from Lahive & Cockfield in March. He works in a range of fields, including software, optical electronics, microprocessor architecture and circuitry, electromagnetics, engine control systems, biometrics, telecommunication architectures and devices, fuel cells, solar cells and semiconductor fabrication. He graduated from Suffolk University Law School and earned a bachelor’s degreee in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
Devine Millimet, one of the largest law firms in northern New England, has announced the hiring of Dana Bisbee as its environmental practice group leader. The firm said he is a noted environmental and land use attorney. Prior to joining Devine Millimet, Bisbee was a partner at the law firm of Pierce Atwood in Portsmouth, N.H., where he also focused on environmental and land use law. He was assistant commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services from 1995 until 2003 and was DES’s acting commissioner in 2002 and 2003. He served in the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office for 14 years, the last five as Deputy Attorney General. Bisbee received his bachelor’s degree in French literature from Dartmouth College and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center.
Game Technology
Blue Fang Games, developer of World of Zoo, has named Alex Chouls as the studio’s creative director. Chouls is responsible for setting the creative direction for all Blue Fang products, leading the effort to identify and select future development projects by creating initial treatments for potential games, and working with all disciplines throughout the pre-production and production phases. He previously served as technical art director at Blue Fang. Chouls entered the game industry as a 3D Artist with Looking-Glass Studios where he worked on Jane’s Attack Squadron and Flight Unlimited III. He received his bachelor of fine arts in film from Emerson College.
Hardware
Luminus Devices Inc., developer and manufacturer of PhlatLight LEDs, has announced the appointment of two executives to general manager roles. Doug Lawson has joined the company as general manager of the UV Business. Lawson will be responsible for leading the strategic business unit and developing new products to bring PhlatLight LEDs to the ultraviolet curing market. Prior to joining Luminus Devices, Lawson was vice president of marketing and business development at BTU International, and he headed up SD Lawson and Associates, a strategic consulting firm. Lawson has held positions with PRI Automation Inc., Digital Equipment Corp. and Intel Corp.
Luminus also announced that Peter Weller has joined as general manager of the lighting business. Weller is responsible for leading the strategic business unit and for managing all aspects of the solid state lighting business’ activities across applications, engineering, product development, operations, finance, marketing and sales. Weller joins Luminus from TCP, Inc. where he was Division and General Manager of the ecoVation brand of compact fluorescent products. Before that Weller held a variety of senior management positions at H.E. Williams, Inc., Venture Lighting International and OSRAM Sylvania Inc.
