NH signs with ConEd for wind power

By Jackie Noblett

New Hampshire has signed an energy contract with ConEdison Solutions to procure wind power to run state office buildings.

The energy contract runs through May 31, 2010, and moves the Granite State closer to its goal to have 25 percent of its power from renewable sources. ConEdison, based in White Plains, N.Y., said in a statement the wind power comes from developments across the U.S. The energy supplier purchases renewable energy credits that equate to the amount of electricity supplied to the state.

“We can build a stronger economy and create jobs for our families by focusing on building a greener, more energy efficient economy and reducing our reliance on expensive fossil fuels,” Gov. John Lynch said in a statement. “Today, the state is taking another step in our efforts to protect our economy and our natural resources by ensuring 25 percent of the electricity used by state government comes from clean, renewable wind power. We are again leading by example as we work to secure our energy independence.”
