Raytheon Co. reports it has landed $36.1 million from the U.S. Army to provide Kuwait with Patriot Missile radar upgrades.
Under the deal, a Foreign Military Sales contract for the State of Kuwait, Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) will upgrade the country’s Patriot missile radar systems to Configuration-3, providing depot test equipment, training and technical services.
The contract follows a $148 million order Raytheon received in June 2008 to upgrade Kuwait’s Patriot system to Configuration-3.
Work on the contract will be done at three Raytheon centers in Massachusetts: Raytheon IDS headquarters in Tewksbury, IDS’ Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, and the Surveillance and Sensors Center in Sudbury. Work will also be done at Raytheon’s Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth, R.I.
On Friday, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the U.S. Navy had given Raytheon $9.9 million to develop missile defense radar technology.
Last week, Raytheon landed $6 million to develop technology to improve the thermal performance of advanced defense electronics systems. Under the deal from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Raytheon will develop nanothermal interface materials intended to reduce thermal resistance between interface layers found in electronic assemblies.
Waltham-based Raytheon, with 72,000 employees, reported a 2008 net income of $1.7 billion on revenue of $23.2 billion.
