$10M General Dynamics deal keeps Maine, Vermont workers busy

By Brendan Lynch

General Dynamics reports its Armament and Technical Products unit has landed $10 million from the U.S. Army to produce grenade machine guns.

Under the order, General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will manufacture MK19 grenade machine guns for the Army’s Tank-Automotive Research and Development Command-Armament and Chemical Acquisition and Logistics Activity (TACOM-ARDEC).

Deliveries of the weapons are expected to begin in April 2010 and will be completed in July 2012. This award brings the total contract value to date to more than $67 million, according to General Dynamics.

Work will be performed at General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products’ facility in Saco, Maine. The work will be managed from its technology center in Burlington, Vt.

Last month, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems unit bought optical systems maker Axsys Technologies Inc. for $643 million.

In May, General Dynamics won $15.8 million from the U.S. Navy for repair work on the USS Hartford. Under the contract, Groton, Conn.-based Electric Boat will plan and perform repairs on the Los Angeles-class attack submarine, which was damaged in March when it collided with an amphibious ship, the USS New Orleans, in the Strait of Hormuz.

General Dynamics is headquartered in Falls Church, Va., and employs about 93,000 people worldwide.
