Mass. seeks bids for solar power installations

By Rodney H. Brown

Massachusetts officials today have put out the call for the first round of bids to install up to 16 megawatts of solar power production at state-owned facilities.

Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Ian Bowles is calling for proposals for installations at sites such as the Somerville Housing Authority, Westfield State College and facilities run by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, according to state officials.

In addition to those sites, the state is looking to site at least 2.75 megawatts atop Logan International Airport’s four commercial passenger terminals. Bids on the projects are due Aug. 19, and the contracts are expected to be awarded by Sept. 18. Work is anticipated to start within 120 days of the contract award.
