Sentillion teams with Microsoft on Amalga

By Rodney H. Brown

Andover-based Sentillion Inc. reports that it has licensed its single sign-on and context management technology to Microsoft Corp. for use in the software titan’s new health care information management platform.

Sentillion’s products will be featured modules to go with Microsoft Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS) 2009, according to company officials. The SSO module will allow greater access control to private health data, and the context management module will help integrate Amalga into a physician’s or clinic’s existing work flow.

No financial details of the license agreement were disclosed, but officials said Sentillion’s offerings will be sold directly by Microsoft with the Amalga UIS platform.

In February, Sentillion reported 2008 as the company’s strongest year since it was founded in 1998. While the privately held company did not release financial details, it did note that it signed on 30 new customers that year, bringing its total client count to 150, representing more than 875 hospitals in North America, Europe and the United Kingdom.

According to Paul Roscoe, president of Sentillion, one of the main benefits of the new Microsoft deal is that it will help Sentillion expand into new areas.

“One of the things this relationship provides Sentillion with is an opportunity to distribute into geographic marketplaces that we otherwise would not get into,” Roscoe said.

Sentillion last raised outside funding in 2001 and has been growing organically ever since, according to Roscoe. “We have a very strong positive EBITDA margin and have had for a number of years.”
