Cambridge-based biomaterials company Living Proof Inc., which is focusing its technology on beauty products, has raised $9 million in its latest funding round, according to a federal filing.
Living Proof raised $7 million in Series A-3 funding in August 2008. The Cambridge startup, previously called Andora Inc., closed a $4 million tranche of its first round of venture financing last year.
Late last year, Living Proof released the first product it developed, a hair treatment to reduce frizziness called No Frizz. The product is sold on shopping channels such as QVC and through the retail chain Sephora, according to the Living Proof website. Amir Nashat, a general partner at Polaris Venture Partners, was acting president of the biomaterials startup, which boasts big-name board members such as MIT professor Robert Langer, and beauty industry names such as Ward Stegerhoek and Mitch DeRosa. Rob Robillard is now the president and CEO of Living Proof.
Nashat, who joined Polaris in 2002, was named a partner last year. He helped Polaris deliver a portfolio company sale worth $415 million, and he was the founding president of Cambridge biotech Pervasis Therapeutics Inc., which develops cell-based treatments to regenerate injured blood vessels. He now serves with Langer on the board of directors of Pervasis.
Polaris, which was founded in 1996, also operates an office in Seattle.
