Stealthy startup Axis takes $1M in funding

By Rodney H. Brown

Axis Semiconductor Inc., a stealthy Marlborough startup launched by veterans of Analog Devices Inc., has landed $1 million of a planned $2 million financing round, according to regulatory documents.

Little information is available about the company, but according to its website, it is working on signal and data processing technology based on a patent-pending process. Co-founder and CEO Xiaolin Wang is listed in patents for packet-handling methodologies from his days working for Axiowave Networks Inc., which closed up shop in November 2004.

According to Axis’ website, Wang worked at Analog Devices as the chief technologist of the Mobile TV Joint Design Laboratory, a collaboration between Analog Devices and Legend Silicon in Shanghai, China. Prior to that role, he was a senior staff engineer working on high-speed signal processing. Before coming to Analog, Wang was chief switch architect at Axiowave and previously worked at Digital Equipment Corp.

Connecting Axis, Axiowave and Analog is Ray Stata, who serves as chairman of the board for Axis and also chairman of the board for Analog, which he co-founded in 1965.

Also coming from Analog to Axis is co-founder and vice president of marketing Qian Wu, the company’s website states.
