Leerink Swann names Schimmer as biotech analyst

Leerink Swann, a Boston-based boutique investment bank focused on the health care space, notes that Joshua Schimmer has joined the firm as managing director, biotechnology analyst, covering mid- and large-cap biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining Leerink Swann, Schimmer was a managing director for FTN Equity Capital Markets Corp., and prior to FTN he served as health care equities analyst for buy-side firm, Davidson Kempner Capital Management LLC. Previously Schimmer was a senior analyst in biotechnology for Cowen & Co., and began his career in biotechnology equity research at Deutsche Bank Securities.
Schimmer holds a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Harvard University. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Toronto, as well as a fellowship in rheumatology, where he was chief fellow.
Leerink Swann provides equity research, corporate finance, strategic advisory and asset management services for institutional, life sciences and high-net-worth clients. Among those clients are Waltham-based Inverness Medical Innovations Inc., Helicos BioSciences Corp. of Cambridge and Branford, Conn.-based Neurogen Corp.
