EnerNOC acquires carbon tracking software firm

By Jackie Noblett

EnerNOC Inc. said Wednesday it has acquired eQuilibrium Solutions Inc., a carbon tracking and energy efficiency software developer.

The deal’s terms were not disclosed.

The Boston-based demand side management technology company said Boston-based eQuilibrium’s software, which helps companies track and monetize their greenhouse gas emissions, will be integrated into EnerNOC’s (Nasdaq: ENOC) existing energy management platform.

Last week, Vermont’s Green Mountain Power, which serves a quarter of Vermont’s population, said customers enrolled in its demand response program will be rolled into EnerNOC’s network. That demand response program enables customers to reduce their electric power usage in response to spikes in wholesale prices or electric systems reliability issues. The EnerNOC network will serve customers who can quickly reduce at least 100 kilowatts of electric usage when they are notified by the network of an event.

EnerNOC’s software and services enable companies to track their energy consumption and billing rates. Prior to Wednesday’s announcement, the company had been developing software to help companies track their energy efficiency and carbon-emission reduction plans.
