Green Mountain Power signs up EnerNOC
By Mass High Tech staff
Vermont-based electric utility Green Mountain Power has partnered with Boston power management company EnerNOC Inc. to bring Green Mountain customers into EnerNOC’s demand response network.
Green Mountain, which serves a quarter of Vermont’s population, said customers enrolled in its demand response program will be rolled into EnerNOC’s network. That demand response program enables customers to reduce their electric power usage in response to spikes in wholesale prices or electric systems reliability issues. The EnerNOC network will serve customers who can quickly reduce at least 100 kilowatts of electric usage when they are notified by the network of an event.
The two companies said they will work together to recruit additional commercial, institutional and industrial customers into the network.
EnerNOC offers utilities and other large organizations technology-enabled demand response and energy management services to help balance electric supply and demand.
EnerNOC recently lost out on a bid to provide a statewide demand response system through the Massachusetts Department of Capital Asset Management, which chose a competing firm from New York for the project.
Green Mountain Power, based in Colchester, serves about 200,000 residences and businesses.
