Two months after the company was acquired by John Ocampo, the owner of California-based semiconductor private equity firm GaAs Labs LLC, M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc. of Lowell has appointed long-time company executive Joseph Thomas to the position of CEO.
Thomas, who has been with M/A-COM for 35 years, was most recently president of the firm.
Founded as Microwave Associates in 1950, and a maker of wireless semiconductors and components, M/A-COM Technology Solutions has been in transition for almost a year. Last September, the unit was sold by then-parent Tyco Electronics Inc. to U.K.-based Cobham PLC, which also acquired M/A-COM’s defense and commercial businesses for a combined for $425 million. Cobham then re-incorporated the unit, selling it to Ocampo in April of this year in a deal that could be worth $90 million if performance criteria is met.
Among the products in M/A-COM’s portfolio are semiconductors, radio frequency identification (RFID) systems and other industrial wireless technologies.
