Newton-based medical imaging apps startup Life Image Inc. has raised $2.2 million, according to official documents.
The startup is focusing on creating web-based applications and services that make it easier to access patients’ medical-imaging history. According to the Life Image website, it’s building the necessary infrastructure to share medical imaging data efficiently. In the U.S., the health care system wastes $10 billion to $15 billion yearly on redundant radiological exams because patients’ prior imaging exams are inaccessible.
To remedy this, Life Image’s intention is to design a versatile universal inbox for diagnostic-quality imaging data. Inboxes will be hosted in two types of environments: Physicians can use these inboxes on their own network, or in the cloud, which will facilitate data sharing.
To continue to its goal, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange filing, the company has now raised $2.2 million in equity financing.
One of the co-founders is Hamid Tabatabaie, who also serves as president and CEO. An industry veteran, he is a serial entrepreneur who has spent 12 years in health care information technology operating startup companies in the diagnostic imaging market. Most recently, he was the CEO of Boston-based Amicas Inc., a developer of web-based diagnostic image management software.
In 2003, Ridgfield, Conn.-based VitalWorks Inc., a provider of health care information management technology, purchased Amicas for $65 million in cash.
The funding round was first reported in the online publication Xconomy.
