Skyworks to acquire Axiom Devices

By Efrain Viscarolasaga

Analog and mixed signal semiconductor maker Skyworks Solutions Inc. has agreed to buy California-based mobile phone power amplifier developer Axiom Devices Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

The deal gives Woburn-based Skyworks (Nasdaq:SWKS) access to Axiom’s line of CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) power amplifiers, of which Axiom is the world’s only volume supplier, according to a Skyworks statement.

The acquisition complements Skyworks’ GaAs (gallium arsenide) product line and bolsters the company’s intellectual property portfolio, according to a statement from Skyworks president and CEO David Aldrich.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a Skyworks statement said the deal “will have no significant impact to Skyworks’ operating expenses.” Officials expect the transaction to be earnings per share neutral in fiscal year 2009 and accretive thereafter.

Publicly traded since 1984, Skyworks makes a variety of analog and mixed signal components for mobile handsets and other applications in the communications, automotive, energy management, medical and military industries. With 3,300 employees worldwide, Skyworks reported $110 million in net income on $860 million in revenue in 2008. However, in its most recent quarter, ending in April of 2009, the company reported its first quarterly net loss -- of $4.6 million -- since 2004.

The same concept is done daily by pa...
