Luminus Devices picks GE vet Ward as new president, CEO
By Efrain Viscarolasaga
Billerica-based LED-maker Luminus Devices Inc. has appointed former General Electric Co. and EYE Lighting International executive T.S. Ward to the position of president and CEO.
Ward takes over the chief spot from long-time CEO Udi Meirav, who has held the post since 2003. Meirav will remain with the company as the executive vice-chairman of the board of directors.
Ward will also hold a spot on the company’s board.
Prior to Luminus, Ward was president and COO of EYE Lighting International of North America, a maker of HID and halogen lamps, and subsidiary of Iwasaki Electric Co. Ltd. of Japan. Ward also spent several years at General Electric, where he worked with the company’s specialty lighting product segment.
Spun out of MIT in 2002, privately-held Luminus makes light emitting diode (LED) and lighting technologies for electronics and general lighting applications. The company is well-funded, having raised a total of more than $140 million in venture funding from an array of investors, including Braemar Energy Ventures of Boston, Stata Venture Partners of Westwood, Battery Ventures of Waltham, CMEA Ventures of California and Paladin Capital Group in Washington D.C.
The company added a new CFO last September, when it named former Sonus Networks CFO Ellen Richstone to the post.
