Cambridge-based mobile marketing technology developer Celtra Inc., has secured $1.2 million in a Series A round of funding from RSG Capital, a venture fund based in Slovenia.
The new funding is expected to help Celtra demonstrate the company’s mobile marketing software to North American and European brands and ad agencies over the next year, according to a company statement. In addition, the company also expects to open a sales and research and development facility in Slovenia, the homeland of the founders, as a way to expand its operations in Europe.
Celtra’s software-as-a-service platform includes SMS, MMS, voice recognition, WAP and other mobile applications as part of a suite of products designed to help in the creation, deployment, management, distribution and tracking of mobile marketing campaigns.
The service has already been used by several large entertainment brands, including 20th Century Fox, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. and Paramount, for movie releases and advertising campaigns.
RSG Capital was originally founded as a spinoff of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia as a way to spur economic development in the region, and was converted into a private venture capital firm in 2008.
Celtra was founded by CEO Mihael Mikek, a former executive with IT integrator Hal Interactive USA LLC.
