Raytheon Co. has granted $600,000 to 30 high school seniors entering the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields as part of its MathMovesU program, according to the company.
Seven of the scholarship winners will attend MIT in the fall, and two will attend Yale University. Each of the 30 winners will receive a $20,000 scholarship from the Waltham-based defense giant. The winners were chosen from a group of 900 students that had previously won $1,000 MathMovesU scholarships while in middle school.
The awards are part of Raytheon’s MathMovesU program, which is intended to engage students in math and science through contests, live events, scholarships and tutoring programs. Last month, the program gave 150 middle school students $1,000 scholarships to be used toward a math, science or technology summer camp or program.
Raytheon started the program in 2005 and said it has donated more than $2 million in scholarships under MathMovesU.
The following scholarship winners plan to attend New England universities in the fall:
• Desiree Amadeo, MIT
• Sappho Gilbert, MIT
• Sandy Huang, MIT
• Jessica Hwang, MIT
• Kimberly Jackson, MIT
• Chenyu Lin, Yale University
• Stephanie Lin, MIT
• Azalea Vo, MIT
• Jonathan Yeh, Yale University
