Emptoris buys Click Commerce contract unit
By Mass High Tech staff
Emptoris Inc., a Burlington-based maker of supply chain software, has bought the contract and service management (CSM) business from Click Commerce Inc.
Click Commerce, a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works Inc., develops business application software for aerospace, defense, logistics, manufacturing, health-care and e-commerce industries.
According to a press release from Emptoris officials, the company plans to “continue and extend the investment in Click Commerce’s research and development.”
Click Commerce’s CSM operations is one of a string of planned acquisitions for Emptoris, which is backed with an undisclosed amount by Los Angeles-based Marlin Equity Partners. Marlin Equity bought out Emptoris’ existing investors in December and put in $20 million in working capital, in addition to the funds set aside for the acquisition. Previous acquisitions for Emptoris include enterprise contract management firm diCarta, automated spend data enrichment firm Intigma and spend analysis firm Zeborg.
Emptoris was founded in 1999 by current CEO Avner Schneur. As of the beginning of 2009, the privately held company employed more than 400 workers and was seeing 20 percent organic growth in 2008.
