Army awards $115M missile contract to Raytheon

By Brendan Lynch

Raytheon Co. reports its Integrated Defense Solutions division has landed $115 million from the U.S. Army for Patriot missile systems.

Under the contract, Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) will upgrade radar components on four Patriot missile systems. The deal was awarded by the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command.

The deal is one of three the Waltham-based company got from the Army for Patriot missile services in just over a week, totalling about $139 million.

Last week, Raytheon IDS landed another $9 million deal from the Army for Patriot missile maintenance. Under that deal, an addition to a $36 million contract from the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command awarded in January of 2008, the defense giant will perform missile maintenance in the United States and at overseas locations.

Also last week, Raytheon landed $14.8 million from the Army for testing, maintenance and repair services for Patriot missile systems. Under that deal, Raytheon will perform clean-up, repair and maintenance on the missiles, including services required to keep missiles located in the United States, southwest Asia, Germany and Korea operable.

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems is a Tewksbury-based unit of Raytheon servicing the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. military and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Raytheon, with 72,000 employees, reported a 2008 net income of $1.7 billion on revenue of $23.2 billion.
