Cambridge office space is up for rent in Kendall Square’s Class A market for $250 per person per month.
Of course, there’s a catch. The office space, called the Cambridge Co-working Center, will operate on a shared-office model.
In an e-mail this afternoon announcing the new venture, which he is calling C3 for short, Cambridge Innovation Center co-founder and CEO Timothy Rowe said tenants will share desks and won’t have phones. The office will be served with only wireless Internet (10 mbps end-to-end). C3 operates independently of the Cambridge Innovation Center.
“These days new entrepreneurs are competent to use Skype and services like Google Voice for phone service. Physical mail can be picked up across the street at the post office,” he wrote.
At the innovation center, which houses more traditional office space, dedicated desks are often vacant when users are out of the office, Rowe said. According to Rowe, many people prefer to work at large tables or sitting on couches. Thus, the C3 will be configured primarily with large tables and soft seating areas, “much like a library reading room,” he said.
Amenities include unlimited coffee and spring water, and piped-in music to cover conversations.
The site’s first tenants include the business plan competition MassChallenge and entrepreneur Jeff Feldgoise.
