
The North of Boston Business Plan Competition has chosen three health care-related startups as its finalists for 2009.
The three finalists will pitch their business plans for 15 minutes, and will then be subjected to 10 minutes of questioning from the competition’s judges. The winner will be chosen following the presentations at an event on May 13.
Finalists are chosen from startups less than two years old, and committed to being located on the North Shore or in the Merrimack Valley, with plans to grow to at least five full-time employees within two years.
The competition’s first prize is $10,000. Second and third place startups will receive $6,000 and $4,000 respectively.
The contest, in its fifth year, is run by the Enterprise Center at Salem State College and the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council.
The following startups have been chosen as finalists:
• Ashton Industries Inc., Boxford
The startup makes insoles intended to address the needs of children’s developing feet.
• Glymetrix, Salem
Gymetrix wants to improve diabetes management through the use of online games, rewards and incentives.
• Halcyon Diagnostics Inc.
Halcyon is an early-stage company developing novel predictive diagnostics for targeted cancer therapeutics.
