Boston’s own Terry McGuire, co-founder and managing partner of Polaris Venture Partners in Waltham, was elected chairman of the board of the National Venture Capital Association at the 2009 NVCA Annual Meeting.

McGuire will fill the one-year term for 2009 to 2010, replacing outgoing chairman Dixon Doll of DCM. The NVCA also chose Kate Mitchell of Scale Venture Partners to lead NVCA as chairwoman elect for the 2010-2011 term.

McGuire’s resume includes his founding of Inspire Pharmaceuticals, AIR (Advanced Inhalation Research Inc.) and MicroCHIPS. He also sits on the boards of directors at Acceleron Pharma, AdiMAB, Arsenal Medical Inc., Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Life Line Screening, MicroCHIPS, Inc., Pulmatrix Inc., Tempo Pharmaceuticals and Trevena, Inc.

McGuire graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School, a master’s degree in engineering from Dartmouth College and a bachelor’s degree in physics and economics from Hobart College.

The NVCA also elected six new board members: Michael Elliott, Noro-Moseley Partners; Michael Greeley, Flybridge Capital Partners; Josh Green, Mohr, Davidow Ventures; James Marver, VantagePoint Venture Partners; Jason Mendelson, Foundry Group; and Sherrill Neff, Quaker BioVentures.

The NVCA event kicked off Thursday with a call to action on four fronts from the NVCA leadership in order to restore venture liquidity.
