PerkinElmer picks Wilson for CFO role

By Marc Songini

Waltham-based lab and research gear provider PerkinElmer Inc. has appointed Frank Wilson as its CFO.

PerkinElmer (NYSE: PKI) noted that Wilson also will be senior vice president and chief accounting officer.  In this position Wilson will have overall leadership responsibility for the strategy and operations of PerkinElmer’s finance and control operations. The position is effective as of May 18.

Wilson brings 20 years of “expertise in developing effective financial and business strategies for driving financial performance,” stated Robert Friel, PerkinElmer’s chairman and CEO, in a press release.

Before joining PerkinElmer, Wilson was the corporate vice president of investor relations at Danaher Corp., a  manufacturer of professional instrumentation, medical and industrial technologies and tools and components. Prior to joining Danaher in 1997, he worked several years with AlliedSignal Inc. (now Honeywell International Inc.) where he was CFO for one of its businesses. He also worked at PepsiCo Inc. and KPMG Peat Marwick.

Wilson has a bachelors degree in accounting from Baylor University, and is a certified public accountant.

This appointment comes just after the company named its current president and CEO Robert Friel as chairman of the board of directors. PerkinElmer made the announcement of Friel’s new appointment on Tuesday at its annual shareholders meeting.

PerkinElmer reported revenue of approximately $2 billion in 2008. It has some 8,500 employees with customers in over 150 countries.
