Defense deals won by Raytheon, Electric Boat, BAE
By Brendan Lynch
Local defense contractors Raytheon Co., General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. and BAE Systems Inc. have each announced a new defense deal. In total, those deals are worth more than $71 million and came from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.
Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has reported that its Tewksbury-based Integrated Defense Systems unit brought in $27 million from the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command for engineering services for the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System. The funding is an add-on to a contract awarded to Raytheon in January, bringing the total value of the deal to $159.2 million. Work under the contract will be performed by Raytheon IDS at its Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover and at IDS headquarters in Tewksbury, as well as in Huntsville, Ala., and White Sands, N.M.
In Groton, Conn., General Dynamics Electric Boat landed $10.3 million from the Navy for non-nuclear maintenance and repair support at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, Conn. Under the modification to a previously won deal, Electric Boat will continue to provide non-nuclear maintenance and repair for operational nuclear submarines, floating dry-docks, support and service craft, and other equipment.
In Nashua, N.H., BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems has landed $33.7 million for work on jamming systems for the U.S. Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. Under the deal, BAE will provide integrated electronic defensive countermeasures, which consist of an electronic frequency converter and a fiber-optic towed decoy. The devices are intended to protect surface-to-air and air-to-air missile attacks. Work on the contract will be performed in Nashua and in Mountain View, Calif.
