Former Sonus Networks CEO Hassan Ahmed joins Charles River Ventures

Charles River Ventures has announced the addition of new senior advisor Hassan Ahmed, former chairman and CEO of Sonus Networks Inc. Ahmed’s role is to guide product and market strategy and advise executives of CRV’s portfolio companies.
Sonus Networks is a former CRV portfolio company.
In addition to his role in forming Sonus Networks, Ahmed worked previously as executive vice president and general manager of Ascend Communication’s core switching division. He also served as chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at Ascend, president and founder of wireless network product maker WaveAccess LLC, product engineering manager at Analog Devices Inc. and director of VLSI Systems, Motorola Codex. Ahmed also taught at Boston University as an associate professor in the Graduate School of Management.
Ahmed graduated from Stanford University with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, an M.S. in aerospace engineering from Carleton University and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Carleton University as well.
Founded in 1970, Charles River Ventures has approximately $2.1 billion under management. Among the companies in CRV’s portfolio are Cedar Point Communications Inc. of New Hampshire and Nantero Inc. of Woburn. CRV has had its share of successful tech industry exits, including the July 2007 IPO of Marlborough-based Netezza Corp. (NYSE: NZ) for $108 million, and the September 2007 sale of Lowell’s Acopia Networks Inc. for $210 million.
