Picis pulls in $2M from VA for anesthesia records system

Medical software firm Picis Inc. reports that it has won a contract for $2.2 million to handle the anesthesia record keeping for the New York/New Jersey Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 3).
The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Wakefield-based Picis the contract to supply the group of five medical centers in VISN 3 has with its Picis Preop Manager, Anesthesia Manager and PACU Manager products. No financial details of the deal were released.
The three Picis software products form an integrated software solution designed to streamline clinician workflow, anesthesia documentation and continuity of care throughout the duration of surgical cases, according to Picis officials.
The five VISN 3 medical centers that are implementing Picis’ anesthesia and PACU automation system as part of the contract award are the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY; Brooklyn Campus of the New York Harbor VA Healthcare System; Manhattan Campus of the New York Harbor VA Healthcare System; East Orange Campus of the VA New Jersey Healthcare System; and Northport VA Medical Center.
Privately held Picis pulled its application to have an initial public offering in July of 2007 due to changes in its strategic and financing plans. The company had filed for the IPO the previous summer. Picis has licensed systems for use in more than 1,700 hospitals in 19 countries, according to the company.
