Haemonetics buys blood drive software firm Altivation
By Marc Songini
Braintree-based blood management products maker Haemonetics Corp. has bought privately-held Altivation Software, an information management software company based in California, so that Haemonetics can offer blood collection management applications.
Globally, most blood is collected at mobile blood drives, and not on site at the blood center. Thus, claimed the company, an integrated software system to manage this is key. Officials at Haemonetics (NYSE:HAE) said that Altivation provides resource management software for the blood banking companies. One of its products is Hemasphere, a real-time database that offers a dashboard of operational information for blood center management. The software can also automate resource and sponsor management of blood drives.
The Hemasphere information management suite supports blood drive calendaring and scheduling. It also handles tasks such as account and blood drive sponsor management, logistics planning and task tracking, chairperson and coordinator management, and staff and volunteer scheduling and tracking. It can generate comprehensive statistics and reports around service history and do recognition tracking, as well, stated Haemonetics.
Altivation’s operations will remain in Chico, Calif. Haemonetics provides blood management solutions, including devices, consumables, IT products, and consulting services.
In February, the company won a $15.7 million settlement for alleged patent infringement from Fenwal Inc., a transfusion products provider based in Illinois.
