Clean Energy Challenge launches
By Mass High Tech staff
Governor Deval Patrick’s Clean Energy Challenge, sponsored by the New England Clean Energy Council, launched today.
The aim of the program is to help businesses reduce their carbon emissions by at least 10 percent by 2012. To do so, the Challenge will provide all registrants with a free carbon footprint analysis; a free onsite energy assessment; access to efficiency-focused vendors to guide company programs; and utility provider reimbursements between 30 percent and 70 percent of the company’s emission reduction projects.
According to the Governor’s Clean Energy Challenge website, companies with one or more facilities in Massachusetts may participate, with the current year’s Challenge participants limited to 25 large organization using more than 200 kilowatts of energy and up to 100 smaller companies using less than 200 kilowatts of energy.
Participating companies and facilities in the Challenge will have their emissions checked from electricity, natural gas, steam and oil sources.
The Challenge was first announced in November by Gov. Patrick. The New England Clean Energy Council is joined in the development of the Challenge by NSTAR, National Grid, Western Mass Electric, Unitil, Cape Light Compact, Associated Industries of Masschusetts and the Massachusetts High Technology Council.
