Dufresne takes CEO helm at Ischemix
By Mass High Tech staff
Robert Dufresne has been named CEO of Maynard biotech firm Ischemix LLC, the company announced. “Duffy” Dufresne joins Ischemix, having served as a member of the board of directors since May 2007.
Dufresne replaces former CEO Reinier Beeuwkes, who will operate as president and chairman of the company.
Before joining Ischemix, Dufresne worked as president and CEO of Pacgen Biopharmaceuticals Corp., as well as Zelos Therapeutics Inc. and ConjuChem Inc. He also held the same position titles at Anika Therapeutics Inc., just after his role at Alpha Beta Technology as senior vice president of business development. Dufresne graduated from Harvard Business School with a master’s degree in business administration.
Ischemix develops drugs to reduce or prevent cell and organ damage linked to ischemia-reperfusion injury, a restriction in blood supply associated with heart attacks and cardiac surgery. Its CMX-2043 drug candidate has undergone Phase 1 safety studies and now awaits Phase 2a clinical studies, expected later this year.
Research conducted at MIT and Harvard University labs established the basis of Ischemix.
