Microarray-based tool developer Aushon Biosystems Inc. has bought Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.’s SearchLight Protein Array business. No financial terms of the acquisition were disclosed.

SearchLight offers “disease-targeted biomarker panels” that will complete Aushon’s biomarker offerings from microarray printing to CLIA-certified lab testing, the company said. The protein biomaker research will serve pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostic customers. The new business will continue to hold the SearchLight brand name, but will operate under Aushon Biosystems.

Aushon Biosystems develops microarray instrumentation and fluid-processing instrumentation, pre-printed microarrays and custom microarray printing services, according to the company website. Its 2470 Arrayer helps companies develop arrays in a range of uses from DNA to cell lysates, company officials said.

Billerica-based Aushon was founded in 2003 by Peter Honkanen and John Austin. It is privately held and closed its first funding round of $7.78 million in December 2006, led by North Bridge Venture Partners and funds from angel investors. The financing supported marketing and development of Aushon Biosystem’s tools.
