Cambridge-based oncology treatment startup Forma Therapeutics Inc. is reaching out to Singapore to do some research.
Forma officials said the company would collaborate with the Experimental Therapeutics Centre (ETC) of Singapore to collaborate on development of new anti-cancer drugs. The intent is to use Forma’s transformative chemistry platform to discover new compounds that ETC will develop. Forma’s didn’t divulge the financial terms of the arrangement.
This collaboration will bolster Singapore’s biomedical pipeline, while also further validating the productivity and efficiency of Forma’s proprietary drug discovery technologies, stated Steven Tregay, CEO of Forma. Both organizations share a commitment to “advancing early-stage science and translating those discoveries into practical clinical applications.”
The ETC receives funds from the Agency for Science, Technology & Research of Singapore. The agency fosters scientific research.
Forma relies on an integrated transformative biology and chemistry-based approach to develop its drugs. It uses a cell-based screening platform to permit the screening of discrete targets in cells. Headquartered in Cambridge, Forma has research operations in Connecticut, Singapore and Beijing.
In January, Forma announced a three-year collaboration agreement with Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Lexington. Under the deal’s terms, Cubist will develop antibacterial compounds discovered by Forma; the drugs under development could be used to fight methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and gram-negative infections.
The deal will provide Forma with $14 million in upfront payments. If Cubist goes to market with any of the compounds, the deal could garner Forma another $54 million in milestones and royalties.
