Babson takes top M&A case contest honors

By Brendan Lynch

A team of MBAs from Babson College has won a regional mergers and acquisitions case competition held at MIT, according to Babson.

During the competition, teams of three to five students were given a 15- to 20-page case study a week before the competition. The students had to analyze the case study and provide strategy recommendations based on the business issue presented in the case study. Each team presented to a “board” of senior private equity partners and investment banking professionals.

Joe Faskha, Dan Gay, Sam Vaill, Annabelle Desangles and Tip Olcott -- students at Babson’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business -- won the ACG Cup, sponsored by the networking group Association for Corporate Growth Inc. The business schools at Boston College, Boston University and MIT also fielded teams.

Babson College will host its own competition, called the John H. Muller Jr. Undergraduate Business Plan Competition, on April 16. The contest offers a prize award of $5,000.
