Conn. tracks stimulus funding online
By Mass High Tech staff
Connecticut governor M. Jodi Rell unveiled a new state website to help citizens follow the flow of federal stimulus dollars into Connecticut. Users of the site will be able to track the progress of stimulus-funded projects and monitor the availability and creation of jobs through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Connecticut state officials reported.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), better known as the stimulus bill, was signed by President Barack Obama on February 17. Under the bill, the federal government will pump $787 billion into the U.S. economy in an effort to create new jobs, encourage alternative energy use and reinstate social programs previously cut due to shrinking budgets.
Connecticut has already begun receiving some of the $3 billion in federal stimulus money. Approximately $1.65 billion comes from direct aid and grants while $1.3 billion is in the form of Medicaid assistance.
Part of the money received includes $8.1 million in federal stimulus funds for use in law enforcement and other community-based safety and intervention programs. The state is also receiving approximately $12 million for law enforcement and public safety programs. The federal government estimates the ARRA will create and/or save more than 40,000 jobs in Connecticut.
The new website, www.recovery.ct.gov, includes explanation of the federal law, lists of “shovel-ready” projects and deadlines, the latest news on the stimulus efforts in Connecticut and answers to frequently asked questions.
