Changing Places

Who's coming? Who's going? Who's changing places?

Life sciences
Waltham-based Parexel International Corp. (Nasdaq: PRXL), a biopharmaceutical services organization, has named Josephine Hoppe as corporate vice president and CIO. Hoppe is responsible for managing the company’s information technology initiatives and integrating technology solutions with business processes on a global basis. Prior to joining Parexel, Hoppe was the CIO of Pegasystems Inc., a business process management company. Previously, she served as executive vice president and CIO of CMGI Inc. and as CIO of Addison Wesley Longman.

Quanticate Ltd., a biometrics clinical research organization, has appointed Andrew MacGarvey as president of its U.S. operations headquartered in Cambridge. In addition, MacGarvey will continue to direct the company’s global sales efforts. Prior to joining Quanticate, MacGarvey served as a director at Datatrial Ltd. Additionally, he has held technology and operational positions at Omnicare Inc., Statwood and PRA International.

Finance
Covington Associates LLC, a Boston-based specialty investment banking firm, has promoted David Anderson and Mike Kent to director. They both previously served as vice presidents. Anderson joined Covington Associates in 2004. He works as part of the Covington health care investment banking team, with a particular focus on emerging medical technologies, health care information technology, and the clinical trial services markets. Prior to joining Covington, he worked at the health care consulting firm, Boston Healthcare Associates Inc. Kent, who joined Covington in 2001, focuses primarily on the industrial, health care, and business services sectors. He previously worked as a management consultant with Camp, Dresser & McKee Inc., an environmental consulting firm. 

Spark Capital LLC, a Boston-based venture capital firm, has promoted Alex Finkelstein to general partner. Since joining the firm at its inception as a principal, Finkelstein has led Spark’s investments in New York-based 5min, an online how-to video company, and 8D World, a virtual world that teaches English as a second language. Before joining Spark Capital, Finkelstein was the creator and producer of several television shows and Internet properties that he sold to major networks, including FOX, E!, Discovery, ITV1 (U.K.) and Yahoo. He also served as a principal for Seed Capital Partners, and prior to that, was an associate at GrandBanks Capital.

Hardware
Erik J. Mancyak was named as Astro-Med Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ALOT) corporate controller and principal accounting officer. Mancyak previously worked as an assistant corporate controller, and earlier, served as Astro-Med’s accounting manager. Previously, Mancyak was senior treasury analyst at American Power Conversion Corp. and was an auditor at the international accounting firm KPMG LLP. West Warwick, R.I.-based Astro-Med is a designer and manufacturer of data recording systems and printers for aerospace, industrial and medical applications.

Boards

RXi Pharmaceuticals Corp. (Nasdaq: RXII), a biopharmaceutical company in Worcester, has appointed Rudolph Nisi to the company’s board of directors. Nisi, a cardiologist, is the chairman of the board and an attending physician at Westchester Square Medical Center and has been a clinical professor of medicine at Cornell University Medical College for over 10 years. He is also a member of the board of directors of Tempra Technology Inc., and was the chairman of the board of Medco Research, a company he founded that was later acquired by King Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Cambridge-based Alfama Inc. has elected Bernard Brigonnet as a member of its board of directors. Brigonnet has held a number of senior executive management positions within companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, including Merck & Co Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and IDM Pharma Inc. He is the founder and principal of Bernard Brigonnet Consulting, based in Paris. Alfama develops carbon monoxide-releasing molecules for use as pharmaceutical drugs.
